UPDATES The former general counsel of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is rejoining Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton as a partner. Giovanni Prezioso will work from the firm’s Washington office. While at the SEC, Przioso led a 120-member legal staff that helped implement the enforcement and regulatory provisions of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. He left new York-based Cleary Gottlieb as a partner in 2002 to join the SEC. Lerach Coughlin Stoia Geller Rudman & Robbins has brought aboard Lawrence Irving, former U.S. District Court judge for the Southern District of California. Irving, who will serve as special counsel in the firm’s San Diego office, will handle securities matters for institutional investors and act as Lerach Coughlin’s liaison with the Regents of the University of California, the lead plaintiff in the Enron securities class action. Environmental lawyer Cynthia Burch has joined Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw as a partner in the firm’s Los Angeles office. Burch, who previously was a partner at Munger, Tolles & Olson, represents energy and manufacturing companies. She will practice in Mayer Brown’s environmental and regulatory practice groups. New partners Caplin & Drysdale (Washington): Cono R. Namorato rejoins the firm as partner after serving the last two years as director of the Office of Professional Responsibility for the Internal Revenue Service. Gardner Carton & Douglas (Chicago): Kathleen Swan joins the corporate department as partner in the firm’s Chicago office. She was previously of counsel to Dykema Gossett. Seyfarth Shaw (Chicago): Sang-yul Lee joins the labor and employment practice group as partner in the firm’s Chicago office. He was previously a senior associate at DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary. New arrivals Morrison & Foerster: Two attorneys join the corporate department in the firm’s New York office-as partner, Lisa Weiss and as senior of counsel, Craigh Leonard. Weiss was previously general counsel of Sony BMG Music Entertainment. Prior to the 2005 merger of Sony Music and BMG, Weiss served as general counsel of Sony Music. Leonard was previously a partner at Bingham McCutchen. Laterals Foley & Lardner: Two attorneys join the litigation department as partners in the firm’s Chicago office-Frank E. Pasquesi and Robert H. Griffith. They were both previously partners in the litigation department at Chicago’s Ungaretti & Harris. Greenberg Traurig: James O. Thoma joins the corporate practice as partner in the firm’s Los Angeles office. He was previously a partner in the corporate practice at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. Shutts & Bowen (Miami): Janet T. Munn joins the business litigation department as partner in the firm’s Miami office. She was previously a partner and head of the intellectual property and media law group at Steel Hector & Davis of Miami, which merged into Squire, Sanders & Dempsey in 2005. White & Case: Sandeep Qusba joins the financial restructuring and insolvency practice as partner in the firm’s New York office. He was previously a partner at O’Melveny & Myers. Firm changes Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal: Drew G.L. Chapman joins the national corporate and securities group as partner in the firm’s New York office.
