WASHINGTON — Harvard Law School was bumped to third place in the U.S. News & World Report ranking of law schools this year, an unfamiliar spot for the school that usually duels for No. 2 with Yale Law School. Yale and Stanford Law School took the first and second spots. Other surprises in this year’s ranking include Northwestern University Law School’s move out of the top 10 and Boalt Hall School of Law’s rise to the top 10, coming in at No. 8. Northwestern is now ranked 12th. Notable declines include Cornell Law School’s dip to 13th place from 11th place last year. In addition, Fordham University School of Law slid to 32nd place from 27th place last year. Falling out of the top 100 are Marquette University Law School, Syracuse University College of Law, Hofstra University School of Law, Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law and Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law. Big gains include University of Kansas School of Law, which went from 100th place to 70th, and University of Denver Strum College of Law, which climbed to 70th place from 95th. Schools making it into the top 100 this year are DePaul University College of Law, at 80th this year; Santa Clara University School of Law, now ranked 87th; University of San Francisco School of Law, at 93rd place; University of Toledo College of Law.
