Silicon Valley powerhouse Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati is getting ready to dig into D.C., following close competitor Cooley Godward, which opened an office inside the Beltway last year. The firm is still scouting for downtown space, but plans to shutter its 30-attorney Reston outpost. (All the attorneys will join the D.C. office, which is slated to open before the end of the year.) The move is part of a larger firm effort to built up a Washington-centered practice for its high-tech client base. “We have had increasing pressure and demand for many of the services that are in Washington, D.C.,” says John Roos, chair of Wilson Sonsini. The firm’s latest hire: Susan Creighton, who recently stepped down after four and a half years as head of the bureau of competition at the Federal Trade Commission. She was a partner in the firm’s Palo Alto office before heading into government.
