SANTA CLARA NAMES NEW ASSISTANT DA SAN JOSE Rolanda Pierre-Dixon, a longtime Santa Clara County supervising deputy district attorney, was promoted to assistant DA on Wednesday. She is the first African-American to hold one of the office’s six top assistant DA spots. “I’m totally thrilled,” Pierre-Dixon said Wednesday, shortly after learning she’d gotten the job. “It’s a natural progression.” Pierre-Dixon, 50, will be in charge of the office’s newly formed Family Violence Division, which will work on child abuse, child abduction and elder abuse cases. The new unit is an extension of the work Pierre-Dixon currently oversees in the eight-attorney domestic violence department. She will also be in change of the juvenile dependency division. “Rolanda has a clear understanding of community,” Chief Assistant DA Karyn Sinunu said Wednesday. “Her attitude for her job is a model for everyone.” DA George Kennedy said last week that there were about a dozen deputies vying for the assistant DA position, but said Pierre-Dixon was a “frontrunner,” noting she has “a lot of experience.” Pierre-Dixon, who grew up in San Francisco and moved to the South Bay for school, became a Santa Clara prosecutor 24 years ago and started the office’s domestic violence unit in 1991. Sinunu said one of the most impressive attributes of Pierre-Dixon’s is her commitment to the rehabilitation process. Pierre-Dixon graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in political science. She received her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law. She replaces Bill Larsen, who retired last month. Julie O’Shea New Partners BINGHAM TAKES 11 INTO PARTNERSHIP Bingham McCutchen has elevated 11 attorneys to the firm’s partnership in the U.S., including five in California.
