White & Case poached four tax attorneys from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld last week in an attempt to boost its tax dispute work inside the Beltway. Led by Michael Quigley, the group includes former Akin Gump partner Brian Gleicher and associates Stephanie Weissman and Dara Oliphant. The group handles work before the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and the U.S. Tax Court, and counts among its clients Clear Channel Communications Inc. Brought in by one-time colleagues Roger Mentz and Linda Carlisle, Quigley says he was looking for a firm with greater international reach. “More and more of my clients are involved in a tax dispute in the U.S., a tax dispute in India, something in France,” Quigley says. “And we operate in all of those places. So having a firm that not only has an office but significant capability in tax and otherwise is a huge benefit.”
