AMERICAN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW ASSOCIATION Mercedes Meyer, a partner at Drinker Biddle & Reath, was selected as chairwoman of the AIPLA’s Women in IP Law Committee for 2006. The committee works to increase membership and provide a larger range of high-quality networking and professional development opportunities.
FEDERAL BAR ASSOCIATION Cary Devorsetz of Alderman & Devorsetz was elected president of the Federal Bar Association’s District of Columbia Chapter on Sept. 11, 2005. His one-year term begins in October. With more than 1,200 members, the D.C. chapter is the largest chapter of the FBA.
HOSPICE CARING INC. Heather Howard an associate at Shulman, Rogers, Gandal, Pordy & Ecker, was named to the board of directors of Hospice Caring Inc. Howard’s practice focuses on fiduciary litigation matters such as guardianship, elder law, and trust and estate litigation.
RIPON COLLEGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES William MacLeod, a partner and chair of Collier Shannon Scott’s antitrust practice, was elected to the board of trustees of Ripon College, located in Ripon, Wis. MacLeod received his B.A. from the school in 1973.
WOMEN IN DEFENSE Susan Warshaw Ebner, a special counsel at Buchanan Ingersoll, has been elected vice president of the national board of Women in Defense. WID is a national security organization with nearly 1,000 members. It is affiliated with the National Defense Industrial Association, which provides its members with opportunities for professional development and networking, cultivating the advancement of women leaders in government and industry professions.
WORKING MOTHER MAGAZINE Arnold & Porter was named to Working Mother magazine’s annual “Working Mother 100 Best Companies.” The survey paid special emphasis to flexible scheduling, child-care options, and time off for new parents.
