MOFO PARTNER OPTS FOR FARELLA BRAUN Morrison & Foerster partner Jonathan Lemberg is making the jump to a smaller pond. On Wednesday, he joined Farella Braun & Martel, a firm with about 125 lawyers and offices in Napa County and San Francisco. MoFo has more than 1,000 attorneys in 19 offices worldwide. “We’ve known of Jonathan for a while,” said Steven Lowenthal, chairman of Farella. “He knows partners in the firm both personally and professionally. Everybody agreed he would be a terrific fit.” Lemberg, a corporate and securities attorney, joins the firm’s business transactions practice group. He spent 11 years at MoFo, most recently in the San Francisco office, but also in the firm’s Hong Kong office, where he served as managing partner. Before that he worked at Shearman & Sterling for seven years, in the New York and Tokyo offices. Lowenthal said Lemberg will serve Farella’s growing number of Asian clients doing business in the United States. “I was looking around for an opportunity to do something a little bit different in the Asian market,” said Lowenthal. “The idea is not to have an office or overhead in Asia, but to be doing in-bound work into the U.S. for Asian companies.” Lemberg said he also wanted to go to a strong local firm with a reputation for quality. Although he said clients would decide later if they would follow him, Lemberg counts among his past clients the Chinese Internet company Netease.com and Wybridge Holdings, which has restaurant operations in Hong Kong, Indonesia and Taiwan. — Marie-Anne Hogarth
