Michael Aiello co-led some of the most lucrative mergers of 2004, helping to represent Sony Corp. of America in its $4.7 billion acquisition of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and helping defend Walt Disney Co. against a $66 billion unsolicited bid from Comcast Corp. Last year, Aiello also played a key role in guiding New York-based MONY Group Inc. as it was acquired by AXA Financial Inc., a complicated case that was monitored closely by the financial press. The two financial services companies were finally brought together in a $1.3 billion merger, following a contested court battle that ranged from New York courts to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. Aiello also advises Omnicare Inc., one of the largest providers of pharmacy and related services to long-term care facilities in the country, most recently helping to represent the company during the hostile acquisition of NCS HealthCare. That transaction also ended successfully, but only after Aiello helped lead a team that argued the case in front of the Delaware Supreme Court. In addition to playing a key role in these highly publicized cases, Aiello is also the assigning partner for the firm’s mergers and acquisitions group, guiding and mentoring the whole department. Aiello became an emergency medical technician as a teenager, and the medical work helped pay for his college tuition. His fascination with emergency medical care continued past law school. Now, Aiello serves as a board member of BRAVO volunteer ambulance services in Brooklyn, N.Y., and every year he dedicates many pro bono hours as general counsel for BRAVO.
