San Francisco Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold has added C. Craig Lilly as special counsel. Lilly’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and general corporate and business transactions. He is a frequent author and lecturer on private equity and corporate finance. Lilly is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma College of Law. Jeffer, Mangels, Butler & Marmaro has added Dennis Goldstein as of counsel. Goldstein, formerly vice president and corporate counsel with Homestake Mining Co., joins the firm’s government, land use, environment and energy department, focusing on mining transactions. He received his J.D. from Stanford Law School in 1971. M. Elizabeth “Betsy” McDaniel, managing partner of the San Francisco office of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, has received the Outstanding Volunteer in Public Service Award for 2004 from the Volunteer Legal Services Program. This award is given to the top 10 percent of volunteers in VLSP projects. McDaniel is a partner in the firm’s construction, environmental, real estate and land use litigation group. South Bay Technology specialists Osha & May, with offices in Houston and Paris, has opened a Santa Clara office. The firm also has added Sean Lewis as a partner in the new office. Lewis is former senior in-house counsel at Sun Microsystems Inc. He is a graduate of Western State University College of Law. The Silicon Valley Campaign for Legal Services, which provides funds for legal agencies to serve the area’s disadvantaged, has added nine new members to its board of directors and three to its general counsel committee. New board members: Craig Allison, Dewey Ballantine; Diane Holt Frankle, Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich; Thomas Kellerman, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius; Jeffrey Ostrow, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett; Robert Smith, Reed Smith; Garrett Waltzer, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom; Julie Emede, Schlepphorst & Emede; Aaron Myers, Fenwick & West; and Christopher Braun, The Recorder’s publisher. The GC committee provides leadership within the business community and promotion of SVCLS. New members: Paul Aherne, Rudolph and Sletten; Frederick Gonzalez, SonicWall Inc.; and Scott Taylor, Phoenix Technologies. Southern California Lynne Heidel has joined Allen Matkins Leck Gamble & Mallory in San Diego as a partner in its land use, environmental and natural resources practice. A former partner at Sullivan Wertz McDade & Wallace, Heidel handles a wide array of land use and environmental matters. She has been involved in many of the region’s complex land use deals for more than 25 years. Heidel received her J.D. from California Western School of Law in 1979. John Hunter has joined Nossaman Guthner Knox & Elliott as a partner in the land use group in Irvine. Hunter, a former vice president of legislative affairs with The Irvine Co., is a longtime leader in the business industry. He earned his J.D. from San Joaquin College of Law. Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold has added Leonora “Lenny” Schloss as special counsel in its Los Angeles office. Schloss’ practice focuses on employment and labor law, with an emphasis on wrongful termination litigation. She received her J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1987.
