San Francisco Farella Braun & Martelhas named Bruce Demingchairman of the business transactions practice group. He takes over from Daniel Cohn, who currently serves as chair of the commercial department, which includes the business transactions, tax and family wealth practice groups. Deming has a broad-based corporate and securities practice and was recently appointed to the corporations committee of the Business Law Section of the State Bar for a four-year term. He is a 1992 Harvard Law School graduate. East Bay Bruce Lymburn, a partner with Wendel, Rosen, Black & Deanin Oakland, has been named general counsel of Clif Bar Inc. Lymburn, who has been with Wendel, Rosen for 10 years, will split his time between the firm and the Berkeley energy bar company. A business, real estate and land use specialist, Lymburn has worked with Clif Bar as outside counsel for eight years. The East Bay Community Law Center has received the Berkeley Community Award from the Berkeley Community Fund. EBCLC was nominated for the award by U.S. District Judge Thelton Henderson. The EBCLC was founded by Boalt Hall law students in 1988 and is now the largest provider of free civil legal assistance to the poor in Alameda County and is a nationally recognized poverty law clinic. Sacramento Klinedinsthas opened an office in Sacramento, which marks the firm’s formal arrival in Northern California. Its other offices are located in San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange County. Natalie Vance, relocating from the San Diego office, is the supervising attorney in Sacramento. The new office will serve the firm’s existing business clients, including insurers, retailers and transportation companies. In addition, the office works with high-tech companies and acts as a hub for the firm’s growing lobbying and government law activities. Southern California The Los Angeles office of Kirkpatrick & Lockharthas added James K. Leeas a partner in its business litigation practice. Lee is a litigator who has represented numerous Korean companies in complex business disputes involving industries such as electronics, semiconductors, automotive and telecommunications. He comes to the firm from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. Lee is a 1992 graduate of University of Minnesota Law School. Technology lawyer Sharon Kleinhas rejoined Pepper Hamiltonas a partner. Klein will be in charge of the firm’s new Orange County office, which is expanding its business technology legal services. Klein was a Pepper partner in Philadelphia until July 2003 when she joined Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth in Newport Beach. She received her J.D. in 1978 from Temple University School of Law.
