San Francisco Hanson, Bridgett, Marcus, Vlahos & Rudyhas hired two litigators — Merton Howardas a partner and Paul Sanneras of counsel. Howard, formerly a partner at Hancock Rothert & Bunshoft, practices complex civil litigation, products liability and business risk management. He received his J.D. in 1992 from the University of San Francisco School of Law. Sanner has more than 30 years of construction law and litigation experience. He joins the firm’s construction practice group from Thelen Reid & Priest. Sanner received his J.D. from the University of Southern California Law School in 1966. Farella Braun & Martelhas added a special counsel and four associates: Neil Sekhri, Eric Stephens, Katina Ancar, Erica Villanuevaand Jason Belk. Sekhri joins the real estate department as a special counsel after 10 years as a deputy city attorney and senior real estate counsel to the Port of San Francisco. He comes to the firm with significant experience in real estate, land use and municipal law. Sekhri earned his J.D. in 1987 from UC-Davis’ King Hall School of Law. Stephens joins the business transactions practice from Thelen Reid & Priest, where he handled a variety of corporate and transactional matters. He is a 1999 graduate of Georgetown University Law Center. Ancar comes to the firm’s insurance practice after working as a staff attorney for the National Center for Youth Law in Oakland. She graduated from Harvard Law School in 1999. Also joining the insurance practice, Villanueva’s experience includes work with the Jerome N. Frank Legal Services Organization, a prison legal services clinic. She also has been involved with legal aid organizations supporting Mexican-Americans and Latino youth. Villanueva is a 2004 Yale Law School graduate. Belk is joining the construction department. In addition to teaching university-level courses, he worked with the East Bay Community Law Center. He graduated this year from Boalt Hall School of Law. Hersh & Hershhas added two associates, Sarah Colbyand Seth Rosenberg. Since graduating from Hastings College of the Law in 1997, Colby has specialized in disability rights, employment discrimination and juvenile law. Previously she was a staff attorney for Legal Services for Children in San Francisco. Rosenberg comes to the firm from O’Melveny & Myers, where he had been a litigation associate since 2001. He graduated from Columbia Law School in 2001. California Women Lawyers has awarded its annual Fay Stender Award to Bonnie Rose Hough.Hough has served as a senior attorney at the Administrative Office of the Courts’ Center for Families, Children & the Courts since 1997. CWL President Candace Carroll said Hough is considered the mother of the Family Law Facilitator Program, which began in 1997. Hough is a Hastings College of the Law graduate. On Friday, Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach will honor Deepa Damreand Pillsbury Winthropwith its Legal Impact Award. Also being recognized for their volunteer legal work will be the Filipino Bar Association of Northern California. In Pillsbury’s years of partnership with API Legal Outreach, the firm has assisted victims of domestic violence in obtaining permanent residency under the Violence Against Women Act. Damre, a corporate and securities associate, has led Pillsbury’s work in these cases. South Bay Don Kumamotohas joined Fish & Richardsonin Redwood City as of counsel in the litigation group. Kumamoto is the former head of intellectual property for Applied Materials Inc., and also worked as a litigation partner at Morrison & Foerster. He graduated from Boalt Hall School of Law and also has a Ph.D. in theoretical chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. GCA Law Partnersin Mountain View has added litigators Kimberly Donovan, Barbara Tanzilloand Jeffrey Lee. Donovan, previously with Fish & Richardson, joins the firm as a partner specializing in IP, employment and general business disputes. She received her J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law. Tanzillo also joins as a partner, coming from Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich and Cooley Godward. She specializes in employment counseling and litigation. Tanzillo is a Harvard Law School graduate. Joining as of counsel, Lee most recently practiced at Day Casebeer Madrid & Batchelder. He specializes in the areas of IP, employment, commercial and business litigation, environmental, land use and natural resource matters, constitutional issues and administrative agency disputes. Lee received a joint J.D. and Master of Studies in Environmental Law from Vermont Law School. Southern California Tax specialist Eric Overmanhas joined the Orange County office of Pillsbury Winthropas of counsel. Overman comes to the firm after a nine-year stint at Deloitte & Touche in New York. His practice focuses on all aspects of asset finance, with an emphasis on lease financings. Overman received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
