San Francisco Preston Gates & Ellis has added six associates, including one in San Francisco, Jill Cartwright, in the commercial litigation practice. Cartwright’s experience includes law and motion matters and national defense of mass tort claims, including defense of medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturers on product liability claims. She is a graduate of UC-Davis’ King Hall School of Law. Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps recently added two associates in San Francisco to its real estate practice, Helen Wolff and Angele Solano. Wolff received her J.D. in 2002 from UCLA School of Law. Solano’s practice focuses on commercial and residential leasing, acquisition and disposition and land use. She is a 2001 Stanford Law School graduate. The California courts official Web site, www.courtinfo.ca.gov, has won an award in the 2004 Top 10 Court Website Awards. The site was chosen out of more than 2,400 reviewed worldwide by Justice Served, a national court management organization. The site was called “a highly useful resource for the public, trial courts, attorneys and government agencies.” Carroll, Burdick & McDonough‘s Elizabeth England has been appointed to the executive committee of the State Bar’s litigation section. England served as vice chair and adviser to the Bar’s real property law section from 1999-2001. A real estate litigator, she received her J.D. from Hastings College of the Law in 1978. East Bay Archer Norris has added three associates to its litigation practice in Walnut Creek: Joseph Nykodym, Jennifer Madsen and Keith Gillette. Nykodym is a member of the arbitration panel for the Alameda County Superior Court and is a day of trial settlement commissioner with the county’s SETL program. He is a graduate of the University of San Francisco School of Law. Madsen’s practice areas include business litigation, insurance coverage and insurance defense litigation. Previously she practiced in Western Canada; she received a law degree from the University of Saskatchewan. Gillette practices in construction defect, personal injury defense and business litigation. He received his J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law. Southern California Harris Brotman has joined Gordon & Rees‘ intellectual property practice in San Diego. Brotman has broad prosecution and licensing experience in biotechnology related to therapeutics, diagnostics and devices. Previously with Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch, Brotman is a graduate of Southwestern University School of Law. American Bar Association President Robert Grey Jr. has appointed Piper Rudnick partner Jane Barrett to the board of the ABA’s Center for Racial and Ethnic Diversity. A member of the firm’s litigation practice group in Los Angeles, Barrett’s practice includes IP, labor and employment and general business litigation. Jon Maki and Carrie Hellwig have joined Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton‘s Del Mar Heights office. Both attorneys specialize in the life sciences industry, with Maki joining the intellectual property practice group and Hellwig, the corporate practice group. Maki received his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1998. Hellwig is a 2001 graduate of UCLA School of Law.
