The longtime general counsel of Electronic Data Systems Corporation, D. Gilbert “Gil” Friedlander, will leave the Plano, Texas-based company this summer to become a corporate partner at Weil, Gotshal & Manges in Dallas. Friedlander, 57, is retiring from EDS to take the new position. He declined to comment, but Glenn West, managing partner of Weil, Gotshal’s Dallas office, says the firm had been wooing Friedlander for several years, and “it ultimately came together.” Weil, Gotshal has not done work for EDS, West says, but has in the past represented a special committee of its board of directors. Friedlander became general counsel at EDS in 1991, joining the company from the now defunct firm Johnson & Gibbs in Dallas. Friedlander was promoted to executive vice president in 2003. EDS spokesman Kevin Lightfoot says Friedlander will remain at EDS until sometime this summer to assist with the transition to a new general counsel.
