ACADEMY OF DIGITAL TELEVISION PIONEERS Robert Schwartz has been inducted into the Academy of Digital Television Pioneers, a group described by its sponsor, the Consumer Electronics Association, as “a select group of nearly 200 individuals who have played a significant role in the decade-long effort that has made digital television a reality for consumers. The academy includes individuals from the broadcasting, program development, consumer electronics manufacturing, and retail industries, as well as present and former government officials and members of the media.” Schwartz is a D.C.-based partner in McDermott, Will & Emery’s legislative practice group and focuses his practice on legislative and telecommunications matters, particularly those related to intellectual property, trade, investment, and antitrust. He is one of only six attorneys in private practice to be inducted into the academy. AMERICAN COLLEGE OF EMPLOYEE BENEFITS COUNSEL Diane Fuchs, a partner and head of Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice’s employee benefits practice group in D.C., has been elected president of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel. The ACEBC honors employee benefits attorneys “whose sustained performance in the practice of their profession exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism and achievement.” Fuchs, who has served as a member of the ACEBC board of governors since 2000 and is a charter fellow of the ACEBC, will serve a one-year term as president. NATIONAL COURT REPORTER ASSOCIATION Dennis Dinkel, an official court reporter for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, has been named a fellow of the Academy of Professional Reporters by the National Court Reporters Association. To qualify, candidates must have been in the practice of reporting for the previous 10 years and must have attained distinction through the publication of important papers, articles, books, or other written material dealing with court reporting or related subjects; service on committees or boards; teaching; or attainment of the NCRA’s Registered Merit Reporter or Speed Contest Certificate.
