ADVOCATE FOR JUSTICE AWARD Jan Allen May, director of the AARP Legal Counsel for the Elderly, was given the Advocate for Justice Award at the May 9 convocation ceremonies of the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law. Shelley Broderick, dean of the school, commended May for “extraordinary service . . . [and] leadership in dealing with the toughest issues facing seniors.” AMERICAN ARBITRATION ASSOCIATION John Townsend, a partner in the D.C. office of Hughes Hubbard & Reed, was given the 2003 Outstanding Director Award at the association’s annual meeting in Dallas. He has served on the board of directors since 1995 and for last five years on the board’s executive committee. He has been chair of the Law Committee for the last two years. Townsend specializes in international disputes, including both arbitration and litigation. WORCFORCE PARTNER APPRECIATION Workforce Organizations for Regional Collaboration Inc. (WORC) presented Piper Rudnick associate Robert McKay Jr. a WORCforce Partner Appreciation Award for his contributions to the nonprofit corporation and to the employment and training community. McKay works in Piper’s government controversies group. DAYTON SCHOOL OF LAW Theodore Wood of Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox has been appointed to the University of Dayton School of Law Alumni Board of Trustees.
