On Thursday the Assembly voted almost unanimously to give the job to Chief Deputy Diane Boyer-Vine, who has been running the office since the January retirement of Legislative Counsel Bion Gregory.

Boyer-Vine, 41, now faces the heady task of revamping the 75-lawyer office, which had been criticized for taking too long to issue opinions under Gregory’s leadership. Gregory, the longest serving Legislative Counsel in the office’s history, has since joined the Sacramento office of Nossaman, Guthner, Knox & Elliott.
