Following a year-and-a-half long strategic review, Latham & Watkins re-launched its practice in Hong Kong this year with some splashy new hires and partner relocations. With a new focus on banking and finance, private equity, high-yield bond, restructuring, equity securities and white collar defense the firm is aiming to replicate its global success in a 21-year-old Hong Kong office that has seen some stumbles in recent years.

“We needed to find out what were the things we needed to do to be Latham & Watkins in Hong Kong as opposed to just be someone out here doing what everyone else was doing,” says Latham vice chair David Gordon. “It’s an easy place to lose money.”
