It’s been nearly two decades since an American attorney held a top leadership position in the International Bar Association (IBA), but that will change in January when Debevoise & Plimpton partner David W. Rivkin is sworn in as the group’s secretary-general.

Rivkin was elected to the IBA’s third-highest post during its annual conference in October in Vancouver. Rivkin is a litigation partner in Debevoise & Plimpton’s New York and London offices and co-chairman of the firm’s international dispute resolution group. He will continue to practice full time during his leadership term with the IBA.
