Four years after netting a $612.5 million settlement with BlackBerry maker Research in Motion, patent-holding company NTP Inc. is suing a half-dozen companies that do business in the wireless handheld device industry.

On Thursday, NTP sued manufacturers, software makers and product developers in the Eastern District of Virginia for allegedly infringing eight NTP patents related to delivering electronic mail over wireless communications systems. The defendants in the cases are Apple Inc., Google Inc., HTC Corp., LG Electronics U.S.A. Inc., Microsoft Corp. and Motorola Inc.
