Attorney Michael Sherman pleaded guilty Wednesday to willfully failing to pay about $400,000 in federal income taxes, admitting he had the ability to pay but spent the money on country club memberships, Jeeps for his children and other discretionary items. Sherman represented Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel when Skakel was convicted in 2002 of killing a teenage neighbor in 1975 and was paid more than $1 million in fees, according to Skakel's supporters. Sherman faces a possible sentence of up to two years in prison.

Sherman, appearing tired, pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts in federal court in Bridgeport, Conn. He faces two years in prison under federal guidelines when he is sentenced Sept. 27.
