A Virginia attorney was publicly reprimanded last week for lax oversight of a legal secretary who stole more than $42,000 from his firm while on probation for stealing from a judge.

The Virginia State Bar ordered John Edward Jessee of Jessee & Read in Abingdon, Va., to hire a certified public accountant to look over the firm’s books and ensure that its record-keeping process complies with existing rules.
