Indiana University Maurer School of Law has launched a Center on the Global Legal Profession to scrutinize legal systems and the practice of law worldwide. Directed by William Henderson, the center will promote research and scholarship on the globalization of the profession. Henderson, a professor at the Indianapolis campus and a legal profession scholar, will work with fellow law professors and the university’s sociology department. The center will coordinate projects with the American Bar Foundation, which brings together scholars from Stanford Law School, Georgetown University Law Center, Northwestern University School of Law and other top schools. “This is the first time we will have legal academics step back and look at the global legal industry as a whole and acknowledge patterns that have evolved over the last few decades,” Henderson said in a press release. The Indiana law school became the Maurer School of Law last year, following a $35 million donation by entrepreneur Michael Maurer. In 2007, the law school received a $25 million donation from the Lilly Endowment, an Indiana philanthropic organization.
