Witold Balaban, who became a partner at Latham & Watkins in 2001, will be a corporate partner in Los Angeles-based Latham's New York office. Partners at top New York firms like Davis Polk are rarely subject to lateral recruitment, both because of their high profitability and their close-knit cultures that admit few laterals themselves. But Latham has been the destination of choice for many who do choose to move.
