The American Red Cross did not violate a federal law prohibiting use of its symbol when it licensed that symbol to four entities, Southern District Judge Jed Rakoff ruled May 15.

Judge Rakoff ruled on the applicability of 18 U.S.C. §706, which prohibits the use of the emblem of the Greek red cross on a white background to fraudulently induce the belief that the displayer is a member or agent of the American National Red Cross.
