Prosecutors in the Southern District of New York on Wednesday informed a federal judge that they do not oppose the idea of delaying the bribery and extortion trial of Sen. Robert Menendez, D-NJ, and his wife Nadine Menendez while she receives medical treatment—but the idea of severing the cases received a cooler reception.
Nadine Menendez’s lawyers at Schertler Onorato Mead & Sears on Tuesday informed U.S. District Judge Sidney Stein of the Southern District of New York that their client has recently been diagnosed with a “serious” medical condition that will require surgery in the next four to six weeks. They asked Stein to adjourn the trial, which is scheduled to begin May 6, with respect to their client.
