The Atlantic Coast Conference responded Wednesday to Clemson University’s recent lawsuit seeking a declaration of certain media rights for its athletics programs by filing a 133-page countersuit for its enforceable contract.

The ACC filed its complaint in North Carolina’s Superior Court for Mecklenburg County, claiming the university signed a contract in 2013 and 2016 to grant the conference its media rights “irrevocably and exclusively” for all home games until 2036. Clemson claims it’s nearly impossible for any of the ACC member institutions to do so because it must pay a $140 million penalty to leave the conference.
