The National Association of Realtors (NAR) reached a $418 million joint settlement with a nationwide class of home sellers last week, resolving claims in four antitrust cases alleging a scheme to inflate agent commissions by requiring illegal buyer broker fees.
A 2019 case, Moehrl v. National Association of Realtors, challenged the organization’s new rule that a largely non-negotiable offer of compensation be made to a broker buyer when listing a property on a “multiple listing service,” or MLS, most of which follow rules set by the NAR.
