According to court papers, Yale University and Emory University have agreed to pay $18.5 million apiece, Brown University has agreed to pay $19.5 million, and Columbia University and Duke University both agreed to pay $24 million to settle claims they colluded to limit the amount of need-based financial aid provided to undergraduates.

Five universities accused of colluding with other top schools to limit the amount of need-based financial aid paid out to students have agreed to settlements totaling more than $100 million.
The settling schools are among 17 elite private schools sued in 2022 as part of an antitrust lawsuit filed in the Northern District of Illinois claiming school leaders came together to illegally set policies to limit the amount of need-based financial aid provided to undergraduates.
