A federal judge in Massachusetts denied a Boston couple’s request to present their securities claims against JPMorgan Chase Bank and Chickasaw Capital Management before a jury, finding jury provision waivers in multiple agreements.

An elderly couple, Peter and Yoon Doelger, filed a nine-count complaint against JPMorgan and Chickasaw—with no jury demand—alleging that they invested tens of millions of dollars with the defendants. The defendants then allegedly invested the money in volatile master limited partnerships. The couple accuses their JPMorgan investment adviser of being inexperienced and placing their money into risky portfolios, resulting in the loss of more than $20 million, according to the opinion filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
