Law school leaders and others in legal academia called Thursday’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling to end affirmative action “deeply disappointing,” but emphasized that institutions of higher learning can still find ways to ensure their admissions processes are equitable and inclusive.

“The fact that we anticipated the opinion does not lessen the extreme disappointment that we feel,” Angela Onwuachi-Willig, dean and Ryan Roth Gallo & Ernest J. Gallo Professor of Law at Boston University School of Law, told Law.com. “The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on Harvard College’s and UNC’s admissions processes betrays the core values of our institution, but it does not in any way alter those values.”
