Former President Donald Trump’s three U.S. Supreme Court appointees likely will be key to the fate of affirmative action in college admissions as the issue of race-conscious policies returns to the high court.

The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear challenges to the use of race in the admissions policies at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina. The two cases will be the first affirmative action challenges to be reviewed by the court since Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett joined the bench.
