Litigation finance giant Burford Capital is taking steps to promote diversity in the practice of law by earmarking an additional $100 million to be directed toward cases led by minority and female attorneys, expanding an effort first focused on women litigators and arbitrators three years ago.

Burford views the expansion of its “Equity Project” as a strategy for giving underrepresented attorneys a leg up in advancing their careers. It hopes to turbocharge the slow pace of change in the legal industry with regard to diversity at the upper ranks.
