UnitedHealth Group and other defendants were hit with a class action Monday in New Jersey District Court over policies related to coverage for breast reconstruction surgery. The lawsuit, brought by Buttaci Leardi & Werner and Cohen Howard LLP, contends that UnitedHealth has a uniform policy that makes it unreasonably difficult for patients to obtain coverage for a particular type of post-mastectomy breast reconstruction known as DIEP flap. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendants. The case is 2:21-cv-12766, Tamburrino, M.D. et al v. Unitedhealth Group Inc. et al.
