While an end to the global pandemic continued to be pushed further beyond the horizon this year, courts struggled to keep dockets moving as in-person proceedings proved to be a logistical nightmare and virtual alternatives met with pushback from litigators. Meanwhile, case backlogs grew in a number of jurisdictions even as judiciary budgets were slashed.
