Earlier in the fall, big firms took divergent paths regarding a special associate bonus—referred to by some as a COVID bonus—to thank them for their hard work amid the difficulties of 2020. But now, bonuses for associates at market-leading firms are becoming more uniform.

One day after Cravath, Swaine & Moore and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison announced special “one-time” bonuses at the scale set by Davis Polk & Wardwell in September, Goodwin Procter; Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom; Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton; and Milbank have decided to enter the fray.
