Microsoft confirmed this week it's in talks with President Donald Trump about purchasing the popular social media network TikTok after Trump threatened to ban TikTok over privacy concerns as a subsidiary of the Chinese company ByteDance.

With Microsoft in the news over TikTok, it was easy to miss Microsoft's announcement of its zero waste plan and how its chief legal officer and president Brad Smith is leading the way in sustainability.

"To address our own waste creation, Microsoft will reduce nearly as much waste as we generate while reusing, repurposing or recycling our solid, compost, electronics, construction and demolition, and hazardous wastes," Smith wrote in a blog post on Tuesday, two days after the company published a post on the TikTok update.
