Judge Richard Loftus Jr. doesn't like to sit idle, nor is he one for chitchat. Attorneys agree that the Santa Clara County Superior Court judge, who moved from family court to the Hall of Justice a year and a half ago, works fast and likes to keep his calendar full. But defense attorneys say the prosecutor's office has already caught Loftus' ear and that, when it comes to ruling and sentencing, he tends to be conservative.
