The El Cerrito Police Department hasn’t ruled out robbery as a motive in the fatal shooting of Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton partner James Gilliland last week, even though the shooter left behind Gilliland’s cellphone and wallet.

“There was no robbery that we know of,” said Lt. Robert De La Campa. “But we don’t know if anything else was taken from him.”
