SACRAMENTO — A San Diego judge who was fined last year for campaign reporting violations is facing possible removal from office for alleged misbehavior in and out of the courtroom, including making inappropriate comments about female lawyers, a judicial commission said Friday.

The Commission on Judicial Performance has begun formal proceedings against Superior Court Judge Gary Kreep, who was elected to the bench in 2012. The former constitutional law attorney was a prominent critic of President Barack Obama, publicly questioning whether he was born in the United States.
