SAN FRANCISCO—Lawyers at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan have slammed one of Missouri’s Republican gubernatorial candidates with a defamation suit after he referred to a Silicon Valley client as the “owner of a teenage sex slave.”

The suit against John Brunner, one four Republicans competing in a primary race next Tuesday, focuses on comments he made during a debate with opponent Eric Greitens. Greitens took $1 million in donations from Silicon Valley venture capitalist Michael Goguen, a supporter of Republican political causes.
