SAN FRANCISCO — Hit by a new set of European antitrust charges on Wednesday, Google Inc.’s defense may hinge on the notion that consumer choice on modern mobile devices is nearly boundless.
The European Union has accused Google of abusing its market position by pressuring smartphone makers to preload devices with Google’s search engine and other apps.
