SAN FRANCISCO — A California appeals panel on Tuesday affirmed a criminal firearms conviction based in part on photographs posted on the defendant’s Instagram account under the screen name “40glock.”

Applying a 2014 California Supreme Court ruling on evidence gleaned from social-media sites, the First District Court of Appeal held that photo evidence showing the defendant with a firearm tucked into the waistband of his pants had been properly authenticated.
