SAN FRANCISCO — Two-term San Jose mayor Chuck Reed has joined Hopkins & Carley as special counsel. “As a former mayor, he obviously brings a lot of contacts and networking skills,” said Jeffrey Essner, managing shareholder of the 64-lawyer California firm. Reed, who left public office Dec. 31, joins the firm’s real estate group, which Essner described as a core practice for the San Jose-based firm.

Reed practiced real estate and land use law for 25 years before his election in 2006 and was previously managing partner of Reed, Elliott, Creech & Roth.
