Cloud communications company Twilio Inc. has hired Karyn Smith as the company’s first general counsel. Smith was previously general counsel for kids clothier Peek, Aren’t You Curious Inc. and before that at the Meltwater Group. She served as Zynga Inc.’s deputy GC from 2009 to 2012.
Barger & Wolen, a 45-lawyer California firm, has agreed to merge with Chicago-based Hinshaw & Culbertson, effective Oct. 1. The combo gives Hinshaw added firepower for its insurance and regulatory practices, as well as an expanded footprint in California and a London office. See story online.
