When Jan Kang, now the general counsel at AOptix Technologies, founded the Women’s General Counsel Network in November 2009, there were five women around the dinner table. To get them there, Kang made cold calls—not her favorite activity—and participated in what one of the other early members now refers to as a blind date.

“It was a lot more successful than most of the blind dates I’ve been on,” Kang laughs.
