SACRAMENTO ­­— The extra $100 million the governor proposes to give California’s trial courts in 2014-15 may not be enough to offset rising costs, according to a report issued Wednesday by the state legislative analyst’s office.

The nonpartisan LAO concluded that increased employee pension and benefit costs—expected to run $64 million in the red by June 30—combined with ongoing funding cuts from previous years and fewer cash accounts to borrow from “could result in reduced levels of service to the public” from the courts.
