Fraser McAlpine joined Jackson Lewis and will become managing partner of the firm’s San Francisco office as of Jan. 1. McAlpine was formerly at Hunton & Williams where he was the managing partner of the San Francisco office and head of the California labor and employment practice. He represents employers in complex employment litigation including class actions, collective actions and representative actions. He graduated from University of Toledo College of Law in 1978.


Winston & Strawn added Edward Kayukov and Laurae Rossi, both project finance attorneys from Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, as partners in its Los Angeles office. Kayukov specializes in representing lenders, tax equity investors and developers in the renewable energy sector. He graduated from Stanford Law School in 1996. Rossi focuses on the development, acquisition and financing of offshore oil rigs and toll roads in the United States and Latin America. She graduated from Southwestern Law School in 2002.

Dario Frommer joined Akin Gump as a partner in its public law and policy practice in Los Angeles. Frommer is a former majority leader of the California State Assembly and has held a variety of high-level state government positions. He comes to Akin Gump from Mayer Brown and will lead the firm’s California public law and policy practice. He graduated from UC-Davis School of Law in 1992.

Sidley Austin added Timothy Spangler to its Los Angeles office as a partner and member of the global investment funds, advisers and derivatives practice. He previously served as chair of the investment funds group at Kaye Scholer. He has worked on hedge funds, private equity funds, venture capital funds and funds of funds. Spangler is a 1994 graduate from Vanderbilt University Law School.


Real estate attorney Stephen Stwora-Hail joined Best Best & Krieger as a partner in its business services practice group in Sacramento. Previously, he was with Downey Brand for 28 years. He graduated from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1982.


Ropes & Gray has named Jason Freedman partner in San Francisco. As a member of the firm’s private equity transactions practice, Freedman primarily represents private equity firms and strategic investors in the structuring and negotiation of leveraged buyouts, cross-border transactions, public and private mergers and acquisitions, PIPE investments and other direct investments. He received his J.D. from Stanford Law School in 2004.
