The top legal officers at five California tech companies — Google Inc., Apple Inc., Qualcomm Inc., SanDisk Corp. and NetApp — earned an average salary of $584,278 in 2012, while their total cash compensation averaged $1.8 million.

The figures, part of sister publication Corporate Counsel's annual GC compensation survey, offer some insights into how large tech companies value their legal advisers. Because public companies are only required to disclose compensation packages for their five highest-paid officers, the survey doesn't capture general counsel who might get top dollar, but not quite as much as some of their executive colleagues.
