OAKLAND — The latest round of class action litigation claiming price fixing in the electronics industry — this one against manufacturers of lithium ion batteries — is gearing up in the Northern District with several Bay Area plaintiffs firms sharing lead roles.

Lawyers from some of the country’s top plaintiffs firms packed a courtroom Wednesday to vie for appointments that would give them control over class actions against companies including LG Chem Inc., Panasonic Corp., Maxell Corp. of America, Sony Corp. and Samsung Electronics Co. Many attorneys on both sides are veterans of similar cases alleging cartel activity by makers of optical disk drives, LCD screens, flash memory devices and other high-tech components.
