As one of the most profitable markets in the country, Silicon Valley continues to be an area of great interest both to established firms and new arrivals. Corporate lawyers with portable books of business are highly sought after and hard to come by.

Between October 2011 and September 2012, 46 partners found a new home, according to data taken from ALM Legal Intelligence and compiled by The Recorder. (See charts here.) This figure includes only firm-to-firm moves between Valley offices. Given the tech sector’s dominance, an unsurprising 80 percent or so of those laterals had corporate, securities or IP practices.
